YOSHINAGA, Masayuki. Zoku.

(Tokyo): Little More, 2003. First edition. Softcover. 25.7cm by 36.3cm. Unpaginated. Monumental photobook documenting Japan’s bosozoku biker gangs. Produced over a seven-year period through close immersion within the subculture, the volume presents an extensive visual record of customised motorcycles, embroidered tokko-fuku uniforms, nocturnal street gatherings, group rituals, and the performative identity of Japanese outlaw youth culture. Rather than treating the bosozoku merely as sensational subjects, Yoshinaga approaches the communities with unusual intimacy and empathy, emphasising camaraderie, spectacle, vulnerability, and ritualised rebellion. Sequenced as a large-format visual document, the work is now regarded as one of the definitive photographic studies of contemporary Japanese subculture and underground identity. A very good copy in photo-illustrated card slipcase. Slipcase showing some wear, short tear at corners. Scarce in this edition.
