HUMERY, Thomas. Hautvillers Hollywood.

(Fontenay-sous-Bois, France): B.Y.E., 2019. First edition. Hardcover. 28.8cm by 25.5cm. 118 pages. A contemplative and poetic photographic monograph that explores the intangible parallels between two cultural landscapes — the pastoral French village of Hautvillers, famed for its Champagne heritage, and the mythic terrain of Los Angeles. Commissioned as part of an artist-in-residence project with Dom Pérignon, the volume presents a series of richly composed images revealing a “ghostly” visual dialogue between the symbolic cosmopolitan glamour of Hollywood and the quiet lineage of Hautvillers. The book fuses photographic sequences with reflective texts by Humery himself, alongside an essay by award-winning writer Joan Didion, whose contribution L.A. Noir deepens the conceptual framework of the work — positioning Los Angeles as a space of ambivalence, mythmaking, and narrative resonance. A very good copy in boards.
