The book documents a short-lived but distinctive trend in Californian youth culture of the early 2000s, in which surfers and skateboarders were asked to autograph bare skin and underwear. Templeton’s black-and-white photographs record both an ephemeral form of calligraphy and body art and the emergence of a subcultural custom centered on visibility, fandom, and display.
