BROODTHAERS, Marcel. Decor: A Conquest.
(New York & Paris): Michael Werner Gallery, 2007. First edition. Softcover. 28.5cm by 23.5cm. Unpaginated. Catalogue issued issued in conjunction with the exhibitions at Galerie Michael Werner (Paris) and Michael Werner Gallery (New York), 2007. The publication documents one of Broodthaers’s most significant works: “Décor: A Conquest” (1975), originally created for the inauguration of the Institute of Contemporary Art, London (ICA) in London. The work comprises two “period rooms” — the nineteenth‑century room and the twentieth‑century room — filled with found objects, props (cannons, garden furniture, rifles, palm trees, puzzles) arranged as a theatrical installation exploring themes of war, comfort, colonialism and the staging of history. Critical text by Filiep Tacq is paired with photographic documentation of the installation. A very good copy in wrappers.
