JONES, Terry. i-D Fashion Magazine.

(London): T J Informat Design Ltd., [1981].  First edition.  Softcover.  21cm by 29.7cm  44 pages.  Issue 3 of perhaps the coolest magazine ever published. i-D began as a fanzine dedicated to the street style of punk-era London in 1980 and soon became essential reading for the fashion-aware.  This issue includes examples of the hybrid style of documentary/fashion photography called ‘The Straight Up’. Here punks and New Wave youth found on English streets who were simply asked to stand against any nearby blank wall. The resulting pictures—the subjects facing the camera and seen from “top to toe”—are a vivid historical documentary photography archive, of contemporary youth culture.  Also includes an interview with Fad Gadget, Vivienne Westwood, and Michael Furbank, an essay on ‘Fashion and Fascism’, The Okonkwo twins, news from New York and more.  A good copy in stapled wrappers, lacking as usual the flexi disc.  Wrappers a little worn along edges, and short closed tear to bottom edge of front cover.  The early issues of this cult magazine are now scarce.
