ROBINSON, Victor. An Essay on Hasheesh.

(New York, NY): Dingwall-Rock, 1930.  Third edition (from the sheets of the second edition, 1925).  Hardcover.  19.4cm by 13.1cm.  91 pages.  Classic work that was originally published in a private edition in 1912.  Foreword by the author.  A pioneering monograph by Ukrainian-American physician and medical historian that offers a remarkable early study of hashish (hasheesh).  Robinson’s essay blends rigorous medical observation, historical perspective, and firsthand experimentation. He dives into the physiology and psychology of hashish use, explores dosage and tolerance, and shares vivid case studies of both visionary states and potential pitfalls—including dependence and withdrawal. The writing balances scientific clarity with spirited storytelling, accumulating into a thoughtful early medical and cultural appraisal of cannabis.  A very good copy in decorated cloth, titled to the spine.  The reviews from the original dustwrapper flaps have been pasted to the rear endpapers.
