RAETZ, Markus. MiMi.
(Innsbruck, Austraia): Galerie Krinzinger, 1981. First edition. Softcover. 18cm by 15cm. Unpaginated. Cool artists book published to accompany the exhibition at Kunsthaus Aarau, February 13 – March 15, 1981. The volume is illustrated throughout with images of MiMi, Mimi is a sculpture by Markus Raetz made in 1981 and composed of 14 fragments of wood beams assembled on the ground. Taking the form of a rough human silhouette, the work has dimensions based on the artist’s measurements. The title, for its part, refers to the names of the protective spirits of nature present in the mythology of the Australian Aborigines. A horizontal sculpture placed directly on the ground, Mimi evokes a figure at rest, asleep, almost inanimate. Its lying position as well as its modest assembly bring it closer to a sort of crude puppet. A very good copy with flexible linen cover.
