[KRASSNER, Paul]. Zippie Beach Party.

[Miami, FL): [Zippie/Youth International Party], [1972].  First edition.  Original handbill.  Small poster, measuring approx. 28cm by 22cm, announcing a “Zippie Beach Party” at Miami Beach, July 10-14 and August 21-24.  Billed as “party of the century” the poster states “Admit 1-1000”. Zippie was briefly the name of the breakaway Yippie faction that demonstrated at the 1972 Republican and Democratic Conventions in Miami Beach, Florida.  Yippie (YIP) was an acronym for “Youth International Party”; similarly, Zippie (ZIP) was an acronym for “Zeitgeist International Party”.  Zippies became prominent internationally during the American 1972 Democratic National Convention and 1972 Republican National Convention, held in Miami Beach, Florida, when the word was silk-screened on t-shirts and worn by counter-culture activists and groups working to end US involvement in the Vietnam War.  A good copy only, with creasing and closed tears.  This example with the ink signature of Paul Krassner a founder of the Youth International Party (Yippies) and a member of Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters.  Scarce.
