WENNER, Jann. Rolling Stone.

(San Francisco): Straight Arrow Publishers Inc., 1967-1968. Vol.1 No.1 – Vol.1 No.10. Ten issues. Broadside newspaper format. The first ten issues of this legendary music magazine that virtually invented rock journalism. Named after the Muddy Waters song “Rollin’ Stone” was initially identified with, and reported on the hippie counterculture of the era. However, the magazine distanced itself from the underground newspapers of the time, such as Berkeley Barb, embracing more traditional journalistic standards and avoiding the radical politics of the underground press. In the very first edition of the magazine, Wenner wrote that Rolling Stone “is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces.” The first issue reviews the Monerey Pop Festival and John Lennon poses in a still from the film How I Won the War on the cover. Lennon would go on to grace the cover two more times within the first ten issues on his way to becoming one of the most featured people on the cover of Rolling Stone. All issues in good condition or better, creased where folded, edges ruffled, some edge tears. Still a nice set of this venerated publication, one of the most important music magazines of all time. Rolling Stone turned on, tuned in, and most importantly wrote it all down.
