YACOUBI, Ahmed. Alchemist’s Cookbook.

Hardcover issue.  Octavo.  142 pages.  Superb and scarce volume on the ancient science of Moroccan cuisine.  Yacoubi, a direct descendant of the prophet of Mohammed, was an acclaimed painter, and the translator for Paul and Jane Bowles.  Paul Bowles also translated Yacoubi’s novels into English.  The volume includes 125 recipes based on the traditions of Moroccan alchemy, and includes such delights as kasha with artichoke hearts, Moroccan refritos, lamb couscous, Pescadilla fish head soup and more.  The volume is printed on various coloured pages with appropriate drawings by Michael Cotton and Prairie Prince.  A very good copy in, price-clipped, dust jacket, with blurbs by William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg.  Uncommon, particularly in this hardcover format.
