(SOLD): WAGNER, Geoffrey. Parade of Pleasure: A Study of Popular Iconography in the U.S.A.

(London): Derek Verschoyle, 1954.  First edition.  Hardcover.  23cm by 19cm.  192 pages.  Similar to, but scarcer, than the Seduction of the Innocent, the volume is the first to be published in the UK to warn of the latent dangers in the emerging popular culture.  The author begins his section on comics by labelling them “The marijuana of the nursery!”, he travels through the world, of Superman, breasts, pin-up magazines, Micky Spillane and more, alarmed at the corrupting influence of these mediums on youth suggesting also that they are a leading cause of juvenile delinquency.  This is a very good copy with the scarce dust jacket, jacket shows some wear and creasing at edges and corners.  Still a nice copy of this important work, seldom found in dust jacket.
