First edition thus.  Octavo.  290 pages.   Introduction by Henry Seidel Canby.  A pleasing edition Thoreau’s classic work, Illustrated with photographs taken at Various Seasons at Walden Pond by Edward Steichen.. Part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and manual for self-reliance the book details Thoreau’s experiences over the course of two years in a cabin he built near Walden Pond, amid woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, near Concord, Massachusetts.  This is a very good copy in original 1/2 black cloth over blue patterned boards; top edge stained blue, some rubbing to corners, lacking the acetate jacket but with the, often missing slipcase with hand numbered titled label to the spine.  Published in an edition of 1500 numbered copies signed by Steichen on the colophon page.
