(Edinburgh): Printed for the Author, and sold by Oliver Boyd, Edinburgh and Simpkin & Marshall, London, 1829. First edition. Octavo. xxxiv, 398 pages. Read claims in his preface that the volume is the first volume to investigate the right to property or wealth and aims to demonstrate what is right or unjust in all the most difficult or important points relating to the production or distribution of wealth or property. Whilst mainly economical, the volume is to a large extent orthodox. Heavily influenced by Samuel Bailey’s seminal ‘Critical dissertation’ of 1825 the work is an important critiscm of classical Ricardian economics. A good copy in the original brown ribbed cloth. Cloth torn and worn particularly at the spine, title label faded, worn and missing right handside. Prelims foxed, one hinge slightly pulled, a few pages uncut. An unsophisticated copy of this rare book.
