(SOLD): POLAT, Ahmet. Kemal’s Dream.

(No place): Self-published, 2012. First edition. Folio. Text by Andrew Finkel and Meltem Ahiska. A scarce look at youth culture in contemporary Turkey via 56 black and white images. The diversity reflected in the pictures give hints of the social, political and economical layers which are interwoven and make ‘youth’ almost impossible to define, as a clear category or with a unified image. Yet mythical meanings once associated with the term by nationalistic and modernist ideals, as well as the clichéd judgmental attitude of older generations seem to hover around these images and put them into an invisible field of tension.  A near fine copy in photo-illustrated wrappers.  A nicely produced volume.
