(ON HOLD): PETERKIN, Julia and Doris ULMANN. Roll, Jordan, Roll.

(New York, NY): Robert Ballou, 1933.  First edition.  Octavo.  251 pages.  Illustrated with 71 offset plates. Titled after the spiritual written by Charles Wesley, this influential collaboration between Julia Peterkin and photojournalist Doris Ulmann brought light to the lives and history of the Gullah descendants of African-American slaves living in South Carolina and Georgia in the thirties.  A very good plus copy in good dust jacket.  Jacket is worn along edges, with small piece missing from top edge of rear cover.  Still a more presentable copy than usually encountered.
