MAU, Leonard and Hubert FICHTE. Die Mauerbilder des Papisto Boy in Dakar.

(Frankfurt Am Main und Paris): Qumran, 1980. First edition. 13 cards, photographically illustrated on beige card stock, with a booklet [8 pp. incl. covers]. One of the few items showcasing the graffiti work of Senegalese graffiti artist Pape Samb who paints under the name Papisto Boy, a devotee of the sufi saint Sheikh Amadu Bamb who he claims guides his hand whilst painting his murals. His paintings incorporate popular culture, ancient history, religion, myth or his own daily life. He would allow tourists to photograph his works in exchange for paints. The work provides a document of this important Senegalese graffiti artist as well as syncretic reference points of the Senegalese culture of the era. All cards in very good condition housed in publisher’s black cardboard box photographically illustrated at upper panel. Scarce.
