FORCADE, Tom. High Times.
(New York, NY): Trans-High Corporation, 1974. First edition. Quarto. 52 pages. Stated premier issue (collectors edition) of the magazine which is devoted to, and advocates the legalization of cannabis. High Times was originally meant to be a joke, a single issue lampoon of Playboy, substituting dope for sex. But the magazine found an audience, and in November 2014, celebrated its 40th anniversary. This issue includes an interview with a (female) dealer, market prices, drugs laws and sentences for 20 countries, an article on tantric yoga and an extract from Timothy Leary’s Terra II as well as much more. A fine copy in stapled wrappers. A nice copy of the first issue of the most influential magazine in the marijuana-using counterculture. This copy with 11 sheets secured by paper clip both typed and hand written, that include details of drug related books, and Ed Rosenfeld’s ideas for future issues of High Times.
