FINI, Leonor. Jeux de Cartes.

(Paris): Acanthe, [1950].  First edition.  Playing cards.  Two decks of players cards housed in a thick card case.  Seemingly issued in both single deck Jeu de Cartes and as here, Jeux de Cartes a double deck format    Each one of the face cards (and joker) features a design by the enigmatic artist, often associated with the surrealists, the flamboyant illustrations here are said to represent Leonore Fini herself, Stanislao Lepri  and Kot Jelenski who all lived in Fini’s Parisian apartment (along with numerous Persian cats) in a bi-sexual a “ménage à trois”.  The Ace of hearts has the stamp of the gallery, and the masked Joker card carries the printed signature of Fini.  Each card measures 9cm by 6cm, divided into two sets one, with a green “sponge” patterned back and the other a magenta coloured back.  The cards are in very good condition and housed in the publisher’s carrying case with title label.  Case with a little wear. The single decks were issued with just one joker and one blank card.  Here each set is accompanied by two jokers.  A very nice set of this early work by Fini, re-issued a number of times, complete sets of this the original edition are now quite difficult to find.
