DE ROOK, G.J. Dutch Railway System.

(Utrecht, The Netherlands): Self-published, 1971.  First edition.  Quarto.  Unpaginated.  Interesting artist’s book, purely conceptual in foundation.  Obeying strict rules: a ride of 26 selected train trajectories, across the Netherlands, is translated into shaky notations akin to the trembling created by different types of trains. The dry report reflects an “alphabet” that cannot be read. Rather, it lucidly describes the passing of time, including man’s physical reaction to its passing.  A very good copy in stapled wrappers, this one of 99 numbered copies (there were also 26 lettered copies).
