COSTIFF, Michael. Michael & Gerlinde’s World: Pages from a diary.

(London): Slow Loris Publishing, 2012. First edition. Hardcover issue. 297 pages plus index. Once described by Vanity Fair as ‘London’s undisputed King and Queen of urban chic’ – Michael and Gerlinda Costiff were already established as prime movers in the Capital’s coolest scenes as far back as the 1970s. This volume trawls through their personal scrapbooks, it takes us into Kinky Gerlinky, the infamous ‘80s club night fronted by Michael and Gerlinde a sweaty, sequin-encrusted affair – the dance floor a sea of drag queens and designers, punks and performance artists, body glitter, false eyelashes and gurning celebs, and to their hipster café in the Chelsea Antique Market in the ‘70s, to their boutique World on Litchfield Street, and their trips to create shop and club interiors around the world. The volume is illustrated throughout with unpublished photos of Vivienne Westwood, Divine, Sid Vicious, Derek Jarman, Boy George, Leigh Bowery and Trojan – and more than its fair share of sequins. This a fine copy without dust jacket. The scarce hardcover edition of which only 100 were produced, this copy additionally inscribed by Michael Costiff “Aciiid!” (2013) with small smiley face drawing.
