(sold): CARLIN, John. Off The Wall: Graffiti Show.
(Newark, NJ): rePress, 1985. First edition. Quarto. Unpaginated. Scarce and early catalogue for a graffiti exhibition at City Without Walls Gallery May 9 – June 5, 1985. The gallery is New Jersey’s oldest not-for-profit alternative art space, in continuous operation since 1975 with a “two-fold mission offers career development opportunities to new and emerging artists, while providing the public a chance to understand and enjoy challenging contemporary art.” Introductory text by John Carlin. The exhibition included work by Web, Staf 27, Prins, Porn, Dace, Two Sweet Hakeem, Revenge, Cuz, Doc, Beam, Gnome and Vulcan, the catalogue includes a short profile of each artist and is illustrated with examples of their work. The volume is superbly illustrated in both black and white and full colour and includes fold-out pages. Exhibition invitation card is fixed to first page to form title-page. A very good copy in spiral bound wrappers with plastic overlay tagged by each of the artists. One page partially free from spirals, otherwise a very nice copy of this highly desirable catalogue that was published in an edition of just 80 numbered copies.
