CAMPERT, Cleo. Het Roxy Archief 1988-1999.

(Amsterdam): Mary Go Wild, 2021. First edition. Folio. Unpaginated. Super cool volume of 700 photographic images from Campert’s time as resident photographer at one of the Netherland’s coolest clubs, the Roxy in Amsterdam. The club opened in 1987 and was the first, to play house and techno music in the Netherlands. The club was known for its extravagant shows, which were presented in large, often multimedia, sets that changed every six weeks. The RoXY was also known for its very arbitrary door policy. Those who were welcomed one time could just as easily be refused the next time. Only a coveted membership guaranteed access. The club was burned to the ground in 1999 because of an indoor firework display. The volume is a photographic ode to the euphoria of the first house years, to the wild and ragged Amsterdam of the late eighties / early nineties, to a club like there never was before and will never be there again. A near fine copy in wrappers.
