ANDRIEUX, Caroline. NEW YORK: Basquiat et Haring. “Graffitistes” Gratifies.

(Paris): Self-published, 1986.  First edition.  Quarto.  88 pages plus, [64 page], annexe.  Presumed unique copy of the author’s thesis completed as part of her studies at the Pantheon Sorbonne where she obtained a Ph.D. in Art History.  The work, completed under the direction of honorary professor Jose Vovelle, is an in-depth and early study of New York graffiti art with particular emphasis on the graffiti art of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. The volume is illustrated with a number of scarce examples of their work in the field.  A very good copy, mechanically reproduced on rectos only, and comb-bound into a cover sheet illustrated in colour, and an unprinted glassine cover sheet.  Repaired crack to the comb-binding, and remnants of old sticker to spine.  This example inscribed by Andrieux, to artist and gallery owner Yves Mikaeloff.  Rare.
