6+ Antwerpse Mode.
(Antwerp): Ludion, 2008. First edition. Quarto. Dutch language edition. Brilliant introduction to the phenomena of the ‘Antwerp Six’ and the Antwerp school. Focusing mainly on the six themselves (Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee) and of course Martin Margiela (of whom the plus sign in the title refers to), the book begins with their formal training and context to their first show in London in 1988, and their shared visions and ambitions. The book then goes on to the next generation (Branquihno, Vandervorst etc.) and other notable luminaries of the academy. Filled with photographs and stories, a fascinating insight into the processes of a generation of designers who changed fashion. A very good copy.
